Neunburger Yachtclub e.V. Eixendorf

History

After several major floods on the Danube, the Eixendorf dam was built between 1972 and 1976 as the largest water reservoir in the Upper Palatinate Schwarzach catchment. Residents of several villages had to be resettled and the state road through the Schwarzach valley was replaced by a generous bridge structure. The 6.2 km Eixendorf reservoir thus animates the newly created landscape. On 20 January 1976, nine local citizens founded Neunburger Yachtclub e.V. Eixendorf in the then Rosengarten inn. The nature park association's hut was soon entrusted to the club for care and use; mayor Manlik and district administrator Stadlbauer were appointed honorary members. A provisional yacht harbour with slipway and a provisional jetty were built. Thanks to an open day in July 1978 as well as various regattas and 14-day intensive sailing courses for the Segelschein A run by the late instructor Fritz Neff, the club's profile and membership grew. The club produced European champions in Korsar and a world championship runner-up in Flying Dutchman. Over the years the slipway access was paved, a new jetty built, the club hut converted and a staircase to the boat jetty constructed. On the club's 20th anniversary the sailing hut burned down completely for unexplained reasons. After a new building was approved, all members helped with planning and construction; the new clubhouse was named after patron and honorary member Max Stadlbauer and inaugurated on 26 June 1999. Today the club offers buoy berths for boats up to seven metres and shore berths for dinghies and holds three internal club regattas, one class regatta and youth sailing training each year.
