Segelverein Rubring
Segelverein Rubring is a non-profit sailing club on the Rubring reservoir in Lower Austria. Although the nearest larger lakes such as Attersee and Mondsee lie in Upper Austria, the Rubring sailors have been active on the Rubring reservoir since 1968, a venue that hosted international rowing competitions in the 1960s. The club maintains grounds with a clubhouse, jetties, a slipway, a crane facility and boat storage areas. Its focus is on promoting sailing as well as training and educating children and young people, complemented by regular get-togethers, a summer festival, regattas and social events. Since its formal incorporation and the construction of the new clubhouse, the club has become an active hub for sailors in the region.
History
In 1967 founder Dr Alfred Rodemund moored his Corsair at a small jetty on today's club grounds; a protective fence had to be removed under an EKW ruling. On 4 June 1968, at the request of Dr Alfred Rodemund, Dr Wolfgang Sittenberger, Kommerzialrat Hans Hochreiter and Ernst Legat, the EKW authorised a boat jetty and enclosure – this date is regarded as the founding of the Segler Vereinigung Rubring, initially without statutes under the Associations Act. In 1982 the first sailing-ground rules were drawn up for the Seglergemeinschaft-Weindlau-Ernsthofen. In 1991, the year of the founder's death, further jetties were applied for; on 11 December 1991 the first general meeting elected Hans Hochreiter unanimously as chairman. A well was built in 1996; in 1999 the EKW confirmed a power connection in writing, and in 2000 cabling and the connection were completed under Gerhard Hubmann. On 1 March 2000 the club was formally founded under the Associations Act, again with Hans Hochreiter as chairman. In 2001 the Upper Austrian provincial government produced a report on the reservoir's future at the request of Willi Neundlinger. In 2002 an electric chain hoist was fitted to the crane and silted berths were dredged. In 2009 Gerhard Hubmann became chairman and the name was changed to Segelverein Rubring. A new clubhouse was built in 2014/15; in 2016 Horst Geiblinger was elected chairman. Later milestones include the club dinghy Aquila Mimi (2017), paving of the slipway and forecourt (2018), a storage extension and rented boat storage meadow (2019), renewal of the north mole and rescue boat plus a new glass front (2021), renewal of all jetties and a new terrace (2022), and paving of the access road plus a new equipment shed (2023).
