Segel-Club Bonn e.V.
Segel-Club Bonn e.V. is a family-friendly sailing club based on the Rursee reservoir in the Eifel near Simmerath-Rurberg. The club has rented club rooms with kitchen and bathroom within walking distance of its own floating jetty with 48 berths, plus club-owned boats including Varianta, Yngling, Dyas, Pirat and ILCA. Members without their own boat may use the club fleet if they hold a Sportbootführerschein Binnen or A-Schein; youth work is supported with Optimists, Lasers and a Pirat. Regular events such as season opening and closing sails, Rursee in Flammen, a Holland sailing week and winter walks shape club life, complemented by regatta success especially in the Pirat class. Emerging from the works sports group of the Federal Ministry of Defence, the club was founded in 1973 and celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2023.
History
The roots of Segel-Club Bonn go back to 1967, when sailors from the works sports group of the Federal Ministry of Defence founded the “Gruppe Segeln Hardtberg” (GSH). The group quickly grew to about 40 members; in autumn the first practical A-Schein course followed at Segelschule Büchel in Schwammenauel on the Rursee, while theory classes were held in Bonn. Still in December a used wooden Pirat (G 1065) was bought for 1,600 DM, fully overhauled in around 600 working hours and christened “SIMSALA” on 23 July 1968. Mooring was first provided as guests of Fahrten-Segel-Club Köln; in 1969 the Eifel-Rur reservoir authority provided two places in the Weidenbach valley. On 4 June 1970 the group joined the DSV; membership then stood at 112 people with 30 centreboard and 4 keelboats, with berths at Paulushof in Rurberg and as guests of Bonner Yacht-Club in Oberwinter. In November 1970 the club magazine “Topplicht” appeared. In March 1971 Bundeswehr pioneers installed the jetty on the Rursee in front of Paulushof; side jetties brought the total to 27 berths. The fleet included Optimist, Zugvogel, Fam, Flying Cruiser and Varianta among others. On 12 June 1971 the jetty was moved downstream to its present position because of falling water levels. After considering independence, the members’ meeting in March 1972 decided to found a standalone club; on 10 January 1973 “Segel Club Bonn e. V. (SCB)” was founded at Hotel “Kreutz” in Duisdorf. In 2023 the club celebrated its 50th anniversary. Today the jetty lies in a largely sheltered spot between Rurberg and Woffelsbach; members compete successfully in regattas, including the 2026 NRW runner-up title in the Pirat class at Hackebeil vom Rursee.
