Zürcher Yacht Club
The Zurich Yacht Club (ZYC) is a leading sailing club on Lake Zurich with a clubhouse and boathouse at General Guisan-Quai 17 in Zurich. In addition to its city location, the club operates the Bächau facility on the upper Lake Zurich with twelve guest berths, training areas and space for regattas, weekend trips and youth camps. Members can use club-owned boat pools including ILCA/Laser and J/70; racing, cruising and social events such as the season opening, summer festival and season closing shape the programme. The JUGA youth section with a children's sailing school and course programme supports juniors, and the club organises numerous traditional regattas and has been a co-organiser of a race course at Travemünder Woche since 2020.
History
According to its vision, the Zurich Yacht Club is shaped by members' shared passion for sailing and aims to help shape sailing in Switzerland as a leading club that sets milestones, delivers exemplary work and acts as a catalyst for Swiss sailing. The ZYC describes itself as a reliable harbour for enthusiastic athletes where not sporting success alone but the sportingly formed sailor is at the core; it is proud of its history and cultivates nautical traditions. The club is open to new developments in sailing, seeks cooperation with other clubs and federations beyond Switzerland and helps keep sailing attractive for sailors and the public. Accordingly, the ZYC organises with its regatta president and helpers a wide range of traditional annual regattas and periodically hosts national Swiss championships as well as international world championships. Since 2020 the ZYC has been, alongside the NRV, a co-organiser of Travemünder Woche of the Lübeck Yacht Club in Travemünde/Lübeck and independently runs a race course there. Alongside racing and cruising, the club maintains social traditions such as season opening, summer festival and season closing as well as Wednesday lunch in the boathouse. Bächau at Walenseeli in Bäch SZ complements the nautical infrastructure on upper Lake Zurich and is available to members and the JUGA youth section for training, regattas, Optimist camps and youth camps.
