History

Żeglarski Klub Morski BRYZA, based in Kielce on ul. Działkowa, was formed in 1994 from the Harcerska Drużyna Żeglarska BRYZA of Hufiec Kielce, founded in 1977. In 2002 the club celebrated its 25th anniversary with sailing races on Zalew Cedzyna near Kielce, which developed into the annual Regaty Świętojańskie around the summer solstice. The club is a member of the Świętokrzyski Okręgowy Związek Żeglarski, has a statute, legal personality and is registered in the Krajowy Rejestr Sądowy (KRS 0000012581). Its main aims are organising sea cruises, sailing events and training for sailing ranks. Members include five yacht captains and twelve coastal yacht skippers; the training fleet comprises the two-masted yacht Trener, open Omega dinghies, cabin yachts, rowing boats and outboard boats in line with PZŻ training guidelines. ŻKM BRYZA holds PZŻ licence no. 11 for training for Żeglarz and Jachtowy sternik morski. The main training water is Zalew Cedzyna near Kielce; coastal skipper training also uses the Jacht Klub Marynarki Wojennej KOTWICA base in Gdynia. The teaching staff includes seven PZŻ sailing instructors, six junior PZŻ sailing instructors and one powerboat instructor; each year about 20 to 50 course participants obtain sailing certificates. Since 2005 the club has had its own site at Zalew Cedzyna with a pier and rooms: in March 2005 the ground was muddy and overgrown; earth was brought in, the shore reinforced, lawns sown and buildings and benches added. For many years ŻKM BRYZA has organised sea trips to ports in Lithuania, Latvia, Sweden, Finland, Denmark and Germany as well as training cruises on tidal waters of France, the Netherlands and Germany; from 1999 to 2007 Croatia and the Aegean were regular destinations. Commodore is Lechosław Marzec; founder and long-time commodore Bogusław Tomasik died on 2 December 2022.
