Yacht Klub Polski Szczecin
Yacht Klub Polski Szczecin is an active sailing club in Szczecin in West Pomerania and continues the traditions of Yacht Klub Polski. The club is based at Marina'Club yacht harbour at ul. Przestrzenna 11, close to the city centre, with access to Lake Dąbie and the waters of Szczecin and the Szczecin Lagoon. Its programme includes an Optimist sailing school, a youth sea section, holiday courses, a racing school and courses for motorboat and yacht skipper qualifications. The club organises regattas such as YKP SZCZECIN CUP and the German-Polish regattas on the Szczecin Lagoon with partner clubs. Founded as a sea branch in 1947, dissolved in 1951 and reactivated in 1993, the club combines tradition, training and racing in an active sailing community.
History
Yacht Klub Polski Oddział Morski in Szczecin was founded on 21 February 1947 by pre-war activists who settled in Szczecin after the war; the first commodore was Voivode Leonard Borkowicz. The club soon received important regional sailing mandates, including care of recovered and repaired Polish yachts such as Zawisza Czarny, Hetman, Bożena, Śmiały, Skierka, Orlik and Bystry. In 1947 training camps were held in Trzebież and the first foreign cruises went to Sweden and Denmark. Due to political circumstances the club was dissolved in 1951 and its assets transferred to other organisations. On 9 January 1993 a founding meeting of 20 sailors initiated by Tadeusz Siwiec reactivated the club; on 10 February 1993 it was registered as Yacht Klub Polski w Szczecinie. The first base was Marina Gocław; since 2011 the seat and base have been Marina'Club. The club belongs to the association of Yacht Klubs Polski and maintains burgee, pennant and emblem in the tradition of Yacht Klub Polski founded in Warsaw in 1924. Modern milestones include organising the YKP 90th anniversary in 2013, supporting the Tall Ship Races, the Narwik 2015 expedition awarded Rejs Roku 2015, the purchase of two Carina yachts in 2017 and the launch of the YKP Szczecin sailing school in 2019. On 19 October 2025 the 2025 sailing season ended with the lowering of the club flag, and Honorary Commodore Stanisław Żyła celebrated his 90th birthday.
