Yacht-Club Lister am Biggesee e.V.
Yacht-Club Lister am Biggesee e.V. is a large sailing club with over 550 members in the Sauerland region on the Bigge reservoir between Olpe and Attendorn. The club offers about 250 pontoon, shore and individual berths, a slipway and crane, a clubhouse with restaurant and an active youth section with club Optimists. Core focuses are solid sailing training including pleasure craft licences, competitive racing and family programmes; children from about six years train regularly. For more than 60 years the YCL has provided a sporting home on Lake Bigge under the motto Together on the wind, with a catchment area from Dortmund to Frankfurt and Cologne.
History
Yacht-Club Lister am Biggesee e.V. looks back on more than six decades of club history on the Sauerland Bigge reservoir and today ranks among Germany's larger sailing clubs. As early as the 1960s and 1970s sporting success shaped its profile: Hans Heitmann took third place at the 1966 German Kielzugvogel championships and became Swiss Tempest champion in 1971; Johannes Ross took third at the 1968 German Kielzugvogel championships on the Biggesee and later placed at Dragon European and world championships. Further titles followed, including the 1972 German Kielzugvogel championship for Heiner Prinz, successes by Hans-Günter Besche in Korsar and Kielzugvogel, and Martin Cordes's national team years in the 470 with a 1973 world championship appearance in Montreal. Roland Rupp won the 1983 Admiral's Cup for Germany as crew on Outsider. From the 1990s international success grew: Johannes Polgar, 1990 German Optimist junior champion, later reached Tornado world class with an Olympic appearance in Beijing (eighth) and became European and multiple German Star champion. Thomas Leukel collected many Laser/ILCA and Kielzugvogel titles; Siegfried and Anne Kuhn became twelve-time German 470 senior champions. The 2000s and 2010s brought further championships and junior success, including Dennis Leukel in Laser classes and Kim and Til Fernholz in 420 and related classes. Today strong youth development, the German Junior Sailing League with the J/70 team, major events such as Sailing Boom and the Biggesee area championship define club life. Infrastructure projects such as slipway repairs, pier assembly and the new Optimist pier are driven by volunteers; harbour master Peter Kramer and many helpers exemplify the club's cohesion.
