Yacht Club Horgen
Yacht Club Horgen (YCH) is a sailing club founded in 1968 on Lake Zurich in Horgen, with around 200 members and a spacious historic clubhouse on Hirsackerstrasse. Facilities include moorings for up to twelve yachts, dry storage, a slipway, boat sharing and training dinghies in Optimist, ILCA and 420 classes. Juniors and adults find training, race coaching on the club Onyx and participation in the Swiss Sailing League and ONYX Compass Cup on J/70. Friday socials, spring and autumn opening sails, offshore trips and regional races such as Kreuzerpokal and Mairegatta shape club life.
History
Yacht Club Horgen was founded on 17 December 1968 in the «Gehren» hall. The initiative came from honorary member Alex Kuhn and Mani Wolf; Ruedi Schwarz, Alfred Bärtschi and Ferdi Willi also joined the founding committee. More than 30 interested sailors signed as founding members; by the end of 1968 the club had 43 active members and one passive member. In 1969 YCH gained a club room in Villa Seerose; in 1971 club rooms and the pier were officially inaugurated, and five Optimists were built under Hans Lackner in 1969/1971. Facing renovation plans for Seerose, the board sought its own premises and in 1980 members voted to buy the old «Zementi» at Hirsacker. On 27 June 1981 the club celebrated taking possession; renovations followed in 1989, 1996–1999 and 2008 (Bilgenbar), with chimney restoration in 2017 for the 50th anniversary. Today YCH is one of the larger clubs on Lake Zurich, affiliated with Swiss Sailing and the Lake Zurich Sailing Association.
