Yacht Club Bregenz
Yacht Club Bregenz (YCB) is a traditional sailing club on Lake Constance based in Bregenz, with its own marina at the present site since 1953. Facilities include harbour infrastructure with clubhouse and restaurant, guest berths, crane and slipway, plus a sailing sports centre with boat storage and a fitness room. The club supports juniors from Optimist training through to Olympic classes and hosts club, evening and the single- and double-handed round-the-lake regatta. Olympic campaigns, world championships and a club history since the 1925 founding shape the association’s profile.
History
On 18 April 1925 the founding meeting of the Bootsbesitzerclub Vorkloster took place at the Bilgeriebach—where Rowing Club Wiking is based today—with 24 boat owners; in 1929 the name became Boots-Club Vorkloster. In 1930 Albert Kaufmann, deputy mayor of Bregenz, took over club leadership. In 1933 a fire destroyed the clubhouse and part of the boat fleet; Kaufmann then built a new timber clubhouse at the Bilgeriebach that served until the 1960s. In 1947 the club adopted new statutes and the name Yacht Club Bregenz (YCB). Since 1953 the club has been at its present harbour site, enabled by city and federal support. For the centenary 1925–2025 the book “100 Jahre YCB” was published. More recently Olympic campaigns (49er Bildstein/Hussl, 470 Bargehr/Mähr), hosting the 2026 8mR World Championship and strong youth work have marked club life.

Own yacht harbour with clubhouse and restaurant, 15 guest berths on the concrete floating pontoon, harbour master’s office, 8 t crane, slipway up to 1.5 t, sailing sports centre with Olympic boat storage, fitness/weights room, winter storage, parking, Porta-Potti and waste sorting, Blue Anchor certification.
Activities
Club and evening regattas, single- and double-handed race around Lake Constance, after-work sailing, harbour festival, youth and Optimist training, Opti week, hosting international events such as the 8mR World Championship, cruising and race sailing.
Youth section
Active youth section with Saturday Optimist training from May (about 20 children), Opti week, training in 420, 29er and ILCA, plus cooperation with the Mehrerau sailing school stream and VLSV; contact youth officer Emanuel Trappel (jugend@ycb.at).
