Yacht Club Zagreb
Yacht Club Zagreb (YCZ / Jaht Klub Zagreb) is a non-profit sailing club in Zagreb based at Veliko Jarunsko jezero (Lake Jarun). The club teaches sailing and maritime skills to children, youth and adults and organises traditional regattas such as Kepertov memorijal and Velika Nagrada grada Zagreba. At Jarun the club offers a clubhouse, training and recreational sailing as well as sailing schools in the Optimist and ILCA classes. For decades the association has also trained boat leaders in categories A and B and promotes sailing in the Zagreb region.
History
Yacht Club Zagreb (Jaht Klub Zagreb, abbreviations JKZ and YCZ) is registered as a non-profit citizens' association in Zagreb with its seat at Aleja Matije Ljubeka 5. The club was founded by Ivan Kepert, its first president; he is commemorated by the traditional Kepertov memorijal regatta, now announced for its 36th edition. Club aims include teaching sailing and seafaring skills to young people and adults, organising regattas in Croatia and beyond, and fostering maritime tradition along the Croatian coast and on inland waters. At Veliko Jarunsko jezero the club runs sailing schools for children (Optimist) and adults (Laser/ILCA), training and recreational sailing. For about forty years YCZ has trained candidates as boat leaders (Voditelj brodice categories A and B) and in 1999 received an award from the Ministry of Maritime Affairs, Transport and Communications of the Republic of Croatia. The club statute was adopted by the assembly on 8 April 2015 and proclaimed under president Aleksandar (Aljoša) Gatin; on 29 November 2022 the assembly adopted amendments. Today the club organises among other events the Velika Nagrada grada Zagreba with guests from the Adriatic and numerous boats on Jarun, and supports youth in Optimist and ILCA.
