Yachtclub Eichhorn Konstanz e.V.

Yachtclub Eichhorn Konstanz e.V. is a sailing club on Lake Constance based at Sportboothafen Staad in Konstanz. Founded in 1994, the club has 98 members, including 9 juniors, and uses 33 berths plus a dinghy pier in the shared harbour. Club life centres on Clubhaus Lände at William-Graf-Platz 1; the fleet includes Optimists, 420 dinghies, a support boat and a sailing yacht for preparing the Lake Constance skipper's licence. Youth training takes place weekly, complemented by school partnerships and regattas such as the revived Eichhorn long-distance race and International Lake Constance Week. The club's history is closely tied to building Sportboothafen Staad, inaugurated in 2006 and since then home to several Konstanz sailing clubs.

History

The history of Yachtclub Eichhorn Konstanz e.V. (YCE) is closely linked to planning and building a new marina in Konstanz-Staad. As early as the 1970s, mooring buoy users between the ferry harbour and Ruppaner pier dreamed of a yacht harbour at Hohenegg. On 30 April 1984 the Südkurier reported that the City of Konstanz planned a 400-boat harbour at Hohenegg; Dr Hans Ruppaner had proposed a yacht harbour for 400 vessels. The municipal council initially approved a 200-berth harbour, later favouring the smaller solution in the old ferry basin. On 27 June 1985 MRV, YRK, the Hohenegg buoy community and the Ruppaner family founded the Interest Group of Sailing Clubs at Hohenegg. After years of negotiations and environmental studies, the three Hohenegg clubs founded Yachtclub Eichhorn Konstanz e.V. on 28 January 1994, which soon acted as negotiating partner with the city and municipal utilities. On 1 August 1995 the Konstanz district office approved conversion of the old ferry harbour. Under President Andrea Fuchs the club quickly grew to more than 120 members; on 31 October 1996 the city and YCE signed a preliminary contract, which was cancelled on 29 June 1999. On 19 July 1999 the ARGE Sportboothafen Staad was then formed with further clubs. On 28 October 2004 the six ARGE clubs signed the contract; construction began on 17 October 2005, the first vessel moored on 1 May 2006, and inauguration followed on 24 June 2006. With 2,000 hours of volunteer work the clubs converted Clubhaus Lände, inaugurated on 8 September 2007, with sanitary and rigging rooms, harbour master's office, training room and club restaurant. Since 2009 YCE has revived the Eichhorn long-distance regatta and is among the clubs that relaunched International Lake Constance Week. Today the club has 98 members and is at home in Sportboothafen Staad. Signed by Honorary President Peter Eitze.
