Seglerheim am Chiemsee
Seglerheim am Chiemsee (VSaC) is a family sailing club on the western shore of Lake Chiemsee in the Harras district of the market town of Prien. The club grounds include their own harbour and a two-storey villa from the 1920s with a northern extension and a terrace overlooking Lake Chiemsee and Herreninsel. The focus is on sailing together as families and as a club; in addition the club hosts its own regattas such as the single-handed Open Solo and the club championship. Laser training and further club dates form part of the annual programme. Since its founding in 1960, the family sailing club motto has shaped club culture to this day.
History
The Seglerheim am Chiemsee club was founded on 20 November 1960 in Prien and is based on the western shore of Lake Chiemsee. By acquiring a plot in the Harras district of Prien with a two-storey villa from the 1920s, building a harbour, cultivating the grounds and adding a northern extension to the villa, a unique facility was created. Situated between two undeveloped plots, due west opposite Herreninsel, the villa terrace offers a view across the grounds, Lake Chiemsee and Herreninsel. The founding members aimed for a family sailing club where racing was not the main focus, but sailing together within the family and the club. Although the club now hosts several well-known regattas itself, it has remained true to this motto in principle. After Fritz Esterer, Horst Badur, Hermann Weiler, Karl-Ernst Fischer, Hans-Peter Wimmer, Rupert Schauer and Rudi Krämmer, Thorsten Richter has led the club since 2026. The club grounds with their own harbour are among the finest facilities on Lake Chiemsee.
