VIASS – Viaredssjöns Segelsällskap

VIASS (Viaredssjöns Segelsällskap) is a non-profit sailing club on Lake Viaredssjön west of Borås in Sweden and offers sailing for beginners and experienced sailors year-round. Members can borrow club boats free of charge, including Optimist, ILCA and RS Quest, and also enjoy a lakeside sauna and kayak options. From May, a sailing school for children and youth runs on Mondays from 17:30 to 19:30; in winter the club sails ice yachts. Founded in 1911 and a member of the Swedish Ice Yachting Association since 2019, the club hosts community sailing, women's sailing courses and corporate events by the lake.

History

Viaredssjöns Segelsällskap (VIASS) traces its tradition back to 1911 and keeps sailing culture alive on Lake Viaredssjön west of Borås. Over the decades the club has established itself as a non-profit association where beginners, experienced sailors and the curious find a place by the lake. In the summer half-year they sail dinghies, keelboats and catamarans; when the lake freezes, the club switches to ice sailing. Since 2019 VIASS has been a proud member of Svenska Isseglarförbundet and has three ice Optimists and a two-person DN ice yacht. The sailing school for children and youth, women's sailing courses with experienced instructors, and tailored corporate and group events shape today's programme. Club life is completed by a waterside sauna, kayaks and free use of club boats for members. Thus VIASS combines more than a century of history with year-round sailing on open water and ice.
