Zeilschool 't Vossenhol
Zeilschool 't Vossenhol is the oldest sailing school in the Netherlands and is located on the Kagerplassen (de Kaag) near Warmond in South Holland. As a non-profit foundation it organises sailing camps and youth weekends for children and teenagers aged 8 to 18 as well as a week for people with physical disabilities. The fleet comprises twelve Zestienkwadraat boats (16-square-metre class); tuition follows its own syllabus with a theory book and Vossenhol diplomas A to D. Besides intensive Kaag weeks there are Friesland trekking tours with a skûtsje and Polyvalk dinghies plus the typical Vossenhol atmosphere with games, night sailing and communal camp life in a building with six dormitories.
History
Zeilschool 't Vossenhol presents itself as the oldest sailing school in the Netherlands and is closely tied to the country's oldest water-sports area, the Kagerplassen (de Kaag). Dutch water sports developed from this region; the school uses landmark spots around Warmond such as Kogjespolder, the Leeghwater pumping station, Warmond's tea pavilion and the Faljeril mill as teaching and day-cruise references. Over the years 't Vossenhol built its own training and diploma system for keelboats such as the Zestienkwadraat, with a theory book and levels A to D up to staff training in the Apenweek. The fleet of twelve Zestienkwadraat boats is maintained through the season by skippers and campers; in parallel grew the motto "everything together" – shared sailing, meals, dishwashing and evening programmes without phones or media. Today Stichting 't Vossenhol (Chamber of Commerce Amsterdam 41222729, Hellegatspolder 3, Warmond) runs the camps with volunteers, often former staff, offering Kaag weeks, Friesland weeks and a Mindervalidenweek.
