Tyresö Båtklubb
Tyresö Båtklubb is a non-profit boat and sailing club in Tyresö near Stockholm, founded in 1963. The club is located at Storängen not far from Tyresö Castle and runs its own harbour with jetties, winter storage ashore, a clubhouse and a junior area. About 220 boats lie at the club jetties in summer; the junior section uses Optimist dinghies and ILCA boats for sailing school and evening sailing. The programme includes Wednesday sailing, youth sailing, theme evenings and larger events such as Ornö Runt at Whitsun and the club championship KM. With over 630 members and unpaid work duty, the club stays active and keeps facilities and equipment in good condition.
History
Tyresö Båtklubb dates back to the early 1960s, when Lindalens Egnahemsförening sold a plot with a dance floor and members wanted a waterfront site with boat berths. In autumn 1962 an informal boat-club committee was formed; on 19 February 1963 an interim board was set up at Medborgarhuset in Trollbäcken with Gunnar Jansson as chair. On 18 April 1963 the founding of a boat club in Tyresö was unanimously decided; the first club meeting on 9 May 1963 gathered 50 people and elected the first board. Storängen by Uddbyviken was chosen as the site. Summer 1963 was spent planning the harbour along a roughly 400-metre reed shoreline; the existing barn was demolished and its timber used for the first jetties. In winter 1964 construction of the first jetty began; by July 1964 the club already had 200 members and introduced a waiting list. Boats over eight metres initially only got swinging moorings at buoys. The same year saw removal of topsoil for winter storage and the first slipway. Autumn 1964 and winter 1965 produced a harbour plan forwarded via Tyresö municipality to Sjöfartsverket. Today the club owns its land, runs the harbour itself and plans a new clubhouse; the detailed club history was documented among other things for the 25th anniversary in 1988.
