Turun Pursiseura
Turun Pursiseura is a traditional Finnish sailing club with more than 120 years of history and its home harbour on Ruissalo island near Turku on the Archipelago Sea. The club offers berths, guest moorings, a fuel station and four island bases for keelboat sailors, beginners, juniors and racing sailors. Facilities include club Optimists and 606 dinghies, a sailing school for children and adults, and the Heikki Bang hall for meetings and celebrations. Regular youth training, weekly races such as Ursuit Cup and Viittakari Cup, and the Airisto Regatta shape the programme. As a Tähtiseura quality club with Roope harbour status, it stands for youth development, environmental standards and active racing on the Archipelago Sea.
History
For more than 120 years Turun Pursiseura has brought people in Turku together through a shared passion for sailing and the archipelago. The city itself was founded by the sea in the 13th century; the club continues this maritime tradition and opens the sea to beginners and experienced sailors. Over decades one of Finland's largest and oldest club sailing schools has grown, training under Suomen Purjehdus ja Veneily and Traficom guidance. Today the club is among the country's largest race organisers with licensed race officials and a regional training centre. The junior section holds the Tähtiseura quality mark; the Ruissalo home harbour meets Pidä Saaristo Siistinä Roope environmental criteria. Four island bases including Pyytinkari, Svinö, Hummelskär and Marholmsören complement the home harbour. Recent highlights include eight crews at Gotland Runt 2026 as the largest foreign club entry, and Special Olympics sailors training in the club's 606 boats.
