History

Turun Työväen Pursiseura was founded in 1896 in Turku and is one of the longest-standing yacht clubs in the area. Activity grew around Pitkäkari island: rented in 1910 and owned by the club from 1947. Yard operations began in the 1920s; the present club name was established in 1930. Today TTPS offers boating, archipelago bases and communal leisure sailing in the Turku and Airisto region. It is a member of Suomen Purjehdus ja Veneily ry (SPV) and Työväen Urheiluliitto (TUL). Volunteer work, island bases and doing things together remain central: all buildings on Pitkäkari were built by members. With about 150 members, home harbour Pitkäkari, outlying island Piiparkari and the Maanpää service harbour, TTPS stays a practical boating community for families and beginners.
