History

The water sports department of TSV Herrsching has combined rowing and sailing on Lake Ammersee for decades. Uwe Pflüger is regarded as the first department head and co-founder of the water sports section; a film excerpt documents the construction of the first boathouse, the commitment of the pioneers and life on the club grounds in Wartaweil. In July 2024 the department celebrated 50 years of water sports at TSV Herrsching. On 15 July 2025, after more than one and a half years of renovation work, the fully refurbished boathouse and clubhouse in Wartaweil was officially inaugurated: club room, kitchen and outdoor toilet were completely renovated, the masonry reinforced, a heat pump installed, the club room redesigned with floor-to-ceiling windows and the outdoor toilet extended with a shower – all in countless voluntary hours by members. Despite storm damage to the club dragon boat and the jetty, the department continued to grow; rowing section leader Benedikt Haack and sailing section leader Samentha Malbert report encouraging growth in youth groups. Around 120 rowers and about 120 sailors are active, some in both disciplines. The rowing section has organised the Herrschinger Triangel as a 6,000-metre long-distance regatta in Herrsching Bay for years – the tenth edition took place in 2026. Other highlights include the traditional May round trip on 1 May, touring trips such as the Vogalonga in Venice and close ties with Märkischer Ruderverein Berlin. The sailing section offers recreational and competitive sport with club regattas in summer and autumn, Yardstick scoring and active A-Cat sailors in the German rankings. The municipality of Herrsching provided significant support for the boathouse renovation. Today the water sports department is a vibrant meeting place for community, sport and nature on Bavaria's third-largest lake.
