Klub Żeglarski TKKF „Żeglarz“ Nowa Sól

History

The club’s history begins in 1963, when managers from the Lower Silesian Metallurgical Works who had come from Lublin founded a sailing section at the works sports club. At first there were only a few members and three Omega boats (Alka, Bekas, Czapla); sailing took place on Lake Sławskie from a holiday centre on its shore. In 1975 the section started building its own Omega flotilla, constructing eleven wooden dinghies with its own labour. In the 1970s the section had 80 members sailing ten Omegas and six boats of other classes; rank training and cruises on other Polish waters and at sea were part of club life. In the 1980s the sailing section had 58 members, eleven Omegas and seven boats of other types. On 25 June 1991, 25 members of the DOZAMET works sailing section founded the TKKF “Żeglarz” centre at Dozamet in Nowa Sól. It was entered in the physical culture associations register and later in the National Court Register (KRS), gaining legal personality; sailing equipment was transferred from the works. In 1997 part of the hangar was bought from Dozamet and remains the club base; floating gear was sold to member caretakers. Since 1991 the club has been financed mainly by membership fees. The Lubiatów base comprises hangar and pier; the land is leased from the State Forests. Today the club has 56 members, including three yacht captains and a yacht sea helmsman, plus PZŻ instructors and sailing teachers. The fleet numbers 30 boats: 19 Omegas, seven cabin boats of various types, two OK dinghies, one 470 and one 420. Club regattas have been held for many years; crews also race with other clubs on the lake and across Poland.
