Tampereen Pursiseura ry
Tampereen Pursiseura ry (TaPS) is a traditional cruising and racing yacht club in Tampere, founded in 1945, with its home harbour at Naistenlahti on Lake Näsijärvi. The club runs a clubhouse with Hai Club rooms, pontoons, a workshop, sail and mast storage, plus three outstations at Taulaniemi, Kesämäki and Vannottu. Facilities and programmes include berths, junior and adult training, Sailing Center courses with J/70 and H-Boat, and regular Wednesday and touring races. The club serves families, juniors and adults from beginners to racers; the youth section holds the Nuori Suomi quality seal. A distinctive feature is the long Hai boat tradition and active member involvement through harbour watches and volunteer work.
History
Tampereen Pursiseura ry was founded in 1945 as a cruising and racing sailing club. In the early decades the Hai class shaped club life, and TaPS racing sailors earned regional and wider recognition in that class. The club established itself at the Naistenlahti home harbour on Lake Näsijärvi and gradually built a network of three outstations: Taulaniemi (Sauna), Kesämäki near Ruovesi, and the island base Vannottu on Tarjannevesi. The crew rooms were named Hai Club and preserve club history with a photo chronicle. TaPS became the first Tampere sailing club awarded the Nuori Suomi seal for youth work. Racing and touring sailing grew on Näsijärvi, Päijänne, Saimaa and the coast. More recently the club runs a Sailing Center with J/70 and H-Boat season cards, modernised harbour facilities, retired the old cranes in 2025, and the City of Tampere harbour renovation at Naistenlahti was nearly complete in 2026.
