Tampereen Navigaatioseura ry
Tampereen Navigaatioseura ry (TaNS) is a long-established Finnish boating and navigation club based at the Pajasaari activity centre on Lake Näsijärvi near the Tammerkoski rapids in Tampere. The club is best known as a training association offering extensive navigation and boat-handling courses, including archipelago, coastal and offshore courses as well as specialist modules such as Cevni, marine VHF and radar. Members have access to berths in Naistenlahti and Pajasaari and to a network of six outing bases on Lake Näsijärvi and at Korpoo. Juniors can join through youth camps and youth programmes; member evenings, navigation competitions and base gatherings shape club life. For some sixty years the club has combined education, boat inspection and recreational boating in the Pirkanmaa region.
History
Tampereen Navigaatioseura ry celebrates its 60th anniversary in 2026, pointing to a founding around 1966. From the outset the focus was on navigation and boat training and on safe recreational boating on the waters of Pirkanmaa. In autumn 1976 the club leased a summer site at Kuterinlahti in Teisko; the sauna was restored by volunteer work in early summer 1977, and pier electricity followed in 1992. Since then a network of outing bases has grown on Lake Näsijärvi – including Kalliomäki, Riekkola, Vähä-Lampisaari and Kuteri – complemented by Honkatorppa in cooperation with Vilppulan Veneilijät and Korppoonranta in the Archipelago Sea. The Pajasaari activity centre on Lake Näsijärvi near Tammerkoski became the fixed meeting place for member evenings, courses and club events. Boat inspection (katsastus) and membership of Finnish boating associations are part of the service. Today the club has nearly 1,000 members, is run by more than 60 officials on a voluntary basis and remains a recognised training club for navigation and practical boating.
