Klub Żeglarski WYGA
KŻ WYGA is a sailing club on Lake Paprocany in Tychy with a long tradition and an active community from the region. The club was founded in 1976 and has been based at the newly built Marina II since August 2025, created on the initiative of the City of Tychy. Facilities include a hangar and harbour infrastructure as well as a fleet with racing boats, a cabin yacht, a catamaran and Optimists for juniors. The programme welcomes sailors from Tychy, Mikołów and Łaziska and covers regattas, cruising and club kayak trips. Since its founding and registration as an association in 1993, member commitment and membership fees have sustained the club.
History
Klub Żeglarski WYGA (KŻ WYGA) was founded in 1976 at the foot of the Bolesław Śmiały mine. The club's sailing story began on scenic Lake Paprocany; from the start, sailors from Tychy, Mikołów and Łaziska were part of the community. After 1989 the club faced a serious crisis: mine funding ended, membership declined, and its survival was at risk. Through the determination and dedication of its members, the club weathered this period. In 1993 KŻ WYGA was registered as an association (Stowarzyszenie); since then its activity has relied on members and their dues. With these means the club leased land at the Paprocany recreation centre and expanded its hangar and harbour. In August 2025, thanks to an initiative of the City of Tychy, the club moved into the newly built Marina II – a symbolic step forward that better enables its goals. The overriding aim remains promoting sailing as a demanding discipline and fostering respect for nature and others; sailing is seen as a school of life that teaches humility, responsibility and strong bonds.
