History

Wiesbadener Yacht-Club e.V. is based at Schierstein Harbour in Wiesbaden and combines sailing, motorboating and youth development on the Rhine and Main. The floating clubhouse reopened in 2015 after extensive renovation; its centrepiece is the Pella lounge for 80 guests with access to a floating terrace and pavilion. The lounge is named after the freighter Pella, which stranded off Amrum in 1964; then WYC president Alexander Zais brought memorabilia that still furnish the clubhouse. The ground floor holds sanitary facilities with showers, washer and dryer plus the harbour master's office overlooking the pontoons and harbour entrance; the harbour master lives upstairs. The 70-berth pontoon and storage for smaller boats were extensively modernised between 2022 and 2025. Since 1994 the club has received the Blue Flag every year for exemplary environmental standards in yacht harbours. Today the WYC offers guest berths, youth programmes from sailing and inflatable-boat slalom to SUP, and an active club life with regattas, the harbour festival and social events.
