Wolfsburger Yacht Club Allertal

Wolfsburger Yacht Club Allertal e.V. (WYCA) is the sailing club on Lake Allersee in Wolfsburg, offering competitive sailing, youth training and relaxed fun sailing for members of all ages. At the clubhouse with its pontoon, club boats such as Laser, Conger and Optimist are available; sailing groups for Conger, Laser and Opti shape the programme alongside cruising and regatta sailing. The active youth section trains several times a week on Allersee from May to October; in winter, theory sessions, boat maintenance and clubhouse activities take place. The club organises its own regattas including opening-of-season sailing, Opti Cup and the Blaues Band der Stadt Wolfsburg, and runs annual training for inland, coastal and radio certificates. The club grounds include a clubhouse, kitchen, terrace, storage rooms and berths for club and private boats; at the end of 2025 WYCA had 259 members.

History

Wolfsburger Yacht Club Allertal e.V. (WYCA) is based on Lake Allersee in Wolfsburg and combines competitive sailing, youth development and a lively club community. In recent years the club has continuously upgraded its facilities and boats: the clubhouse electrics were modernised and a solar system with storage was installed to cover basic energy needs. A new regatta-ready 420 was purchased for the youth group in 2025, and the harbour has been maintained through voluntary harbour management work. The youth section offers taster sailing and junior certificate tests; 15 children took part in taster sailing in 2025. Regattas such as Blaues Band der Stadt Wolfsburg, the Opti regatta and opening-of-season sailing shape the racing calendar on Allersee. Members have achieved successes up to European and international championships, including a victory by Sascha and René Treichel at the European and International Championship in Travemünde with their Topcat. At the 2026 annual general meeting the board reported 259 members at the end of 2025 with an average age of 50.5 years; the club is therefore actively recruiting junior and youth sailors. Long-serving members Uwe Mielke, Manfred Erdmann and Siegward Hagg were honoured for 25 years of membership. WYCA runs annual training for inland, coastal and radio certificates and also rents out its clubhouse for events.
