Zwischenahner Segelklub von 1893 e.V. is one of Germany's oldest sailing clubs, located on Lake Zwischenahn in Bad Zwischenahn. The club offers a home harbour with 155 water berths and about 50 shore berths, a clubhouse and the BOJE-4 restaurant on Seerosenweg. Besides recreational sailing, the ZSK organises more than 15 ranking regattas and championships each year and runs intensive youth training on club-owned boats. Since its founding in 1893, tradition, youth development and an active club life with season opening, closing and harbour festival have shaped the association.
History
The history of Zwischenahner Segelklub began in summer 1893 when meat manufacturer Wilhelm Gleimius met merchant Feuerheerdt from Madeira at the Kurhaus Bad Zwischenahn. They founded the sailing club and scheduled the first rowing and sailing boat regatta for 20 August 1893. Despite little wind the day was a success according to Gleimius; further regattas followed, including 18 August 1894. Initially without its own clubhouse, members met at the Kurhaus and later at Meiers Hotel on the market square. In 1925 the first clubhouse was built in front of the Ammerländer farmhouse; the fleet moored on the Aue. In 1929 the house had to be sold during the economic crisis. Through the legacy of Kommerzienrat Bertram the club obtained the Am Hohen Ufer site on lease and a new meeting place. In the 1968 season already 700 active and passive racing sailors visited; the south-shore site became too small. In 1969 the annual general meeting decided on a new start on the east shore at Auf der Kreuzwisch. After the 1972 foundation stone and 1973 topping-out ceremony, the site has been the home harbour since 1973. In 2018 the ZSK celebrated its 125th anniversary as one of Germany's oldest sailing clubs. In 2023 the clubhouse's 50th anniversary was marked; the club also took on a 1963 sailing cutter for youth and guest trips and began renovating changing and sanitary facilities.
