Zeilclub Sirocco
Zeilclub Sirocco is the sailing club on Lake Paalse Plas near Paal-Beringen in Belgium and welcomes dinghy sailors of all experience levels. The club offers sailing lessons for children, teenagers and adults, Optimist sailing camps during the holidays, recreational races and open club days. Youth sailing focuses on Optimist training and camps; the club also operates a motorboat for which a Belgian steering licence is required. Fixed highlights include Watersportdag, G-Watersportdag and the 4-hour race on Paalse Plas; the club is part of the Optimist circuit.
History
Zeilclub Sirocco was founded in 1993 out of the Sirocco surf club on Paalse Plas in Beringen. In 2003–2004 a new boat parking area was built, and one year later a new hall was constructed together with the surf club. The club is affiliated with the Vlaamse Yachting Federatie (VYF) / Wind & Watersport Vlaanderen and is open to recreational and racing sailors. The annual programme includes Watersportdag, G-Watersportdag and the 4-hour race on Paalse Plas, plus at least one Optisail regatta each year. Besides youth camps for children and juniors, the club regularly organises adult sailing courses and Optimist training for young sailors.
