Zürcher Yacht Club
The Zurich Yacht Club is a leading sailing club on Lake Zurich with a clubhouse at General Guisan-Quai 17 in Zurich and an additional site at Bächau on the upper lake. Members use club-owned boat pools including ILCA and J/70 as well as mooring fields and the boathouse. The programme covers racing and cruising, the JUGA youth section with children's sailing school and 29er development, plus social events such as season opening, summer festival and season closing. Since 2020 the club co-hosts Travemünde Week and runs its own race course there; traditional events such as the Spring Prize, COLOMBA Cup and Old Fashion Race shape the calendar.
History
According to its own vision, the Zurich Yacht Club sees itself as a leading club in Swiss sailing that sets milestones and upholds nautical traditions. Over many years the club has built a dense regatta programme on Lake Zurich, including the Zurich Spring Prize, the COLOMBA Cup for Star boats, the Zurich Guild Regatta, the Day and Night Race, the Old Fashion Race and the autumn prizes. From 2014 the COLOMBA Cup for Star boats has been held separately from the Spring Prize. Since 2020 the ZYC has co-hosted Travemünde Week of the Lübeck Yacht Club alongside NRV and runs its own course there. In parallel the club maintains Bächau on the upper Lake Zurich as a second site for youth, training, Optimist camps and guest berths, and provides members with club-owned boat pools. Social traditions such as season opening, summer festival and season closing, plus Wednesday lunch in the boathouse, still complement the sporting programme today.
