Yachtclub Kattegat Lübeck e.V.
Yachtclub Kattegat Lübeck e.V. (YKL) is a non-profit sailing club on the River Trave in Lübeck, with club grounds and moorings in a sheltered location on the city side of the Herrentunnel. The site offers around 85 berths and a clubhouse; guest sailors are welcome and identified by green signs. Club life includes sporting and social events such as the season opening and closing sails, a harbour festival with an Optimist regatta, joint races of the Trave clubs, and the traditional seniors' cruise promoting single-handed sailing. Since its founding on 22 June 1968 the club has been strongly supported by members' communal work, helping to keep membership and berth fees comparatively low.
History
Yachtclub Kattegat Lübeck e.V. (YKL) was founded on 22 June 1968 and is registered as a non-profit association at the Lübeck district court under VR 957; with the German Sailing Association it carries the code SH 088. The club grounds with piers and clubhouse lie in a sheltered position on the city side of the Herrentunnel and provide around 85 berths. Facilities are largely built and maintained by members through work parties; communal work is a core concern of the club. Over the years recurring events such as season opening and closing sails, summer festivals and harbour festivals have shaped club life, documented in an extensive photo gallery including a series on the club's 50th anniversary. A special tradition is the seniors' cruise promoting single-handed sailing: in 2025 the 21st cruise was organised by Jürgen Frömmert and called at Grömitz, Kühlungsborn, Fehmarn and Neustadt; the 22nd cruise is planned for 27 May to 5 June 2026. Joint regatta activities also play a role, including planning meetings for the Max-Oertz Regatta in the clubhouse and the joint race of the Trave clubs. The gallery also records the return of the yacht Resolute after a five-year circumnavigation. As of 1 January 2026 the club has 127 members, including 43 family members at reduced rates.
