History

Yacht Club Zug looks back on a long record of success in Swiss sailing. As early as 1967, club sailors competed at the pre-Olympic Games in Acapulco in the Star class; in 1972 came Olympic participation in Kiel in Tempest. Over decades, members won numerous Swiss championship titles in Star, Dragon, 505, Vaurien, Pirate, Optimist, Surprise, X-99 and Yngling, as well as European and German titles, for example in Surprise and Dart 18. World Championship podiums in Yngling and Dart 18 underline the international profile. The club mission statement of December 2004 emphasises junior development, regattas and training camps, sociability in the clubhouse and at Böschenrot, and care for Lake Zug. Since 2008 the blu26 class has been present on the lake and, with guest rights of Yacht Club Zug, runs the annual blu26 Cup; since 2015 blu26 has been an official Swiss Sailing class. The club maintains the harbour clubhouse, Piratenhafen and dry storage plus Böschenrot, and has organised regattas via Manage2Sail since 2020. Alongside classic racing it fosters club cruising, Fit & Segeln, junior training and Swiss Sailing League formats.
