Yacht-Club von Hagenburg e.V.

The Yacht-Club von Hagenburg e.V. is a traditional sailing club on the Hagenburg Canal in the Steinhuder Meer Nature Park and has existed since its founding in 1969. The club offers a sheltered harbour with jetties, a clubhouse with terrace overlooking the harbour, and a barbecue pavilion as a meeting point after regattas and at the jetty festival. The programme includes club regattas, the Steinhuder Meer-Rund, the Friday Cup and an active youth group called Hagenburger Kanalracker with Optimist and dinghy training. For more than five decades, volunteer work, club life and racing on Lake Steinhude have shaped the profile of this non-profit association.

History

On 17 January 1969 the founding meeting of Yacht-Club von Hagenburg e.V. took place at the Wilhelmstein inn; Wilhelm Hildebrandt became the first chairman. Because the abbreviation YCH was already used by Yacht-Club Hannover, the club took the name Yacht-Club von Hagenburg. From 1971 the club under Rudolf Nolte planned its own berth on the Hagenburg Canal; in 1972 jetty 1 was built by members from railway sleepers and power poles, enabling sailing from the canal for the first time. In 1973 the club joined the Steinhuder Meer racing association; in 1976 it had 55 members and 40 berths, and in 1977 membership grew to 180. In subsequent years jetties were extended, a barbecue pavilion was built in 1981, and from 1984 the Steinhuder Meer-Rund was established with Steinhuder Segler-Vereinigung as a major keelboat regatta. In 1985 the club magazine Der Schlickrutscher first appeared and waterfront land was acquired. From 1992 to 1994 the clubhouse was built under architect Stefan Busse and inaugurated on 23 April 1994 for the 25th anniversary. In 2000 the club went online at www.ycvh.de; in 2002 the Kanalracker youth group was revived and Optimists renovated. In 2007 the jetties were thoroughly renewed. Honorary members include Volkmar Plischke (2004), Eckehard Spennemann (2011) and Rudolf Nolte (2016). In 2018 lease contracts were extended to 2051; in 2019 the club celebrated its 50th anniversary. The COVID years 2020/2021 heavily restricted club life; in 2023 long-serving harbour master Fritz Tieste died.
