Yachtclub TherMilAk e.V.

Yachtclub TherMilAk e.V. (YCTM) is the official sailing and yacht club at the Theresian Military Academy in Wiener Neustadt, with its own club and harbour facility at the northern harbour in Rust on Lake Neusiedl. Members use the clubhouse, pier, berths, equipment store and club boats for hire; the facility was fully renovated in 2020/2021. The programme includes basic sailing training, youth training, inland sailing licences and cruising areas under ÖSV and MSVÖ rules, radio and safety seminars, and club as well as international regattas. Founded in 1999 from the diving and nautical training section of the Wiener Neustadt army sports club, YCTM maintains a strong training and racing tradition on Lake Neusiedl and beyond.

History

YC Ther MilAk grew out of the 1992 diving and nautical training section of the Wiener Neustadt army sports club. The aim was to equip divers with boat licences; training later switched to MSVÖ patents. In 1999 Peter Heller, Johann Culik and Dieter Bleha among others founded the yacht club as an ÖHYC branch; first president was Johann Culik. Early years brought FB2/3 courses, inland sailing licences, a club magazine, regattas in Jois and a Seychelles cruise. After a Danube jetty, the Rust harbour was purchased in 2001, renovated and opened on 28 July 2001. Offshore trips, GMDSS and celestial navigation courses and safety seminars followed. In 2005 the club became independent. In 2007 Michael Ebner became president; sponsorship added the dinghy Gipsy Star. In 2009 a Cape Horn cruise, purchase of the Aquila dinghy and the first youth course marked further growth. Since then training, youth work, the Rust facility and international results such as the Kornati Cup and ORC racing have shaped club life; the northern harbour site was again fully renovated in 2020/2021.
