Yachtclub Westfalia Arnsberg e. V.

Yachtclub Westfalia Arnsberg e. V. (YCWA) has been the sailing club on the northern shore of Lake Möhnesee since 1963, combining sailing tradition with community life on the so-called Westphalian Sea. The club grounds at Schnapp's Hof feature four jetties, a slip crane, mast-stepping facilities, a workshop, a clubhouse with catering and a panorama terrace, plus private parking with EV charging. Racing sailors, cruising crews and the youth section with club-owned Optimists share the waters by the Arnsberg Forest. Regular club championships, ranking regattas, trim races, courses and the youth sailing week shape the programme. With more than 60 years of club history and an active shanty choir, YCWA is a firm anchor of the Westphalian sailing scene.

History

Yachtclub Westfalia Arnsberg e. V. (YCWA) looks back on a club history since 1963 and has since combined sailing tradition with passion on Lake Möhnesee. Located on the north-western edge of the Arnsberg Forest, the club developed over more than six decades into a home port for racing and cruising sailors as well as for the youth section. The grounds at Schnapp's Hof were continuously expanded: four modern jetties, slip crane and slipway, mast-stepping gear, a club workshop and a clubhouse with catering and panorama terrace now form the infrastructure. Youth support with club-owned Optimists, a youth room and a safeguarding concept against sexualised violence is an integral part of club culture. Sportingly, YCWA regularly hosts ranking regattas including Conger cups with the NRW state championship, club championships, trim races and class events for Flying Junior and Vaurien. Cruising sailors have for decades brought trip experience from the Baltic to circumnavigations back to the harbour; the shanty choir cultivates maritime song. Work parties at season start and end plus joint events such as the season opening and Midsummer Night sailing strengthen cohesion. Today YCWA stands as the sailing club on the Westphalian Sea for community, volunteer effort and lively club life on and beside Lake Möhnesee.
