Yacht-Club Sempachersee
The Yacht-Club Sempachersee (YCSe) is a traditional sailing club on Lake Sempach in Nottwil and has organised club and class regattas as well as active club life since 1944. The club grounds offer a clubhouse, berths, jetty, crane and winter storage; berths and clubhouse are reserved for members. An active junior team trains about 20 children and teenagers in Optimist and ILCA, complemented by summer weeks, regional cups and evening training. The programme includes season opening, Inseli regatta, Barrique Cup, autumn race, 7 o’clock evenings and season closing; live webcams and a full regatta calendar complete the offer.
History
Since 1944, sailors of the Yacht-Club Sempachersee have met for regattas, club events and relaxation on Lake Sempach. The club has a long tradition and is led by a nine-member board. In 2014 the club celebrated its 70th anniversary and introduced the Barrique Cup as a long-distance race with a separate ranking for wooden boats. In 2019 the summer festival marking 75 years was a special highlight. Over the years formats such as Hahnenschrei, Inseli regatta, 7 o’clock, class races and junior summer weeks became established, with the summer week already in its seventeenth edition. YCSe members have competed successfully internationally, including in Star, Dyas and Optimist as well as at Tempest world championships. In 2021 flooding affected the infrastructure; damage was largely repaired. From 2025 a launching ban heavily restricted sailing on Lake Sempach; after about 494 days, racing resumed from April 2026 under adapted rules. Today camaraderie, youth development and a dense regatta programme define club life on Lake Sempach.
