Yacht-Club Saarbrücken e.V.
Yacht-Club Saarbrücken e.V. is a sailing club from Saarland whose home waters are Lac Vert in Mittersheim in Lorraine, about an hour's drive south of Saarbrücken. On the roughly 3,500 square metre club grounds, members have a clubhouse, jetty, land berths and pitches for caravans and motorhomes; club-owned Laser, 420 and Optimist boats complete the offer. The club especially promotes youth sailing and runs regattas and training in several classes on Lac Vert and Lake Bostal, including Optimist, ILCA and 2.4mR events. Founded on 9 June 1964 as the third sailing club in Saarland, it combines racing, youth work and sociable club life at the lakeside clubhouse.
History
Yacht-Club Saarbrücken (YCSb) was founded on 9 June 1964 as the third sailing club in Saarland. Its home waters are Lac Vert (Mittersheim pond) in Mittersheim in Lorraine, about 60 kilometres south of Saarbrücken; the lake covers roughly 220 hectares. On the approximately 3,500 square metre club grounds with clubhouse, jetty and land berths, members also have pitches for caravans and motorhomes. The clubhouse overlooking the lake serves as a meeting place and for catering regatta participants. The club's main aim is to promote sailing and especially to introduce young people to the sport. Its focus is organising regattas in various boat classes with sailors from Germany and neighbouring countries on Lac Vert and Lake Bostal. Members can use club-owned Laser, 420 and Optimist boats. In the following years, active racing and youth work developed; club festivals and championships at Mittersheim shape club life. After the winter storm of February 2020, the sanitary and sail storage huts were maintained and painted in May 2022. In parallel, the LVSS sailing base at Bosen on Lake Bostal is an important training and racing venue for the club, notably in the 2.4mR class with participation in national and international championships.
