Yacht-Club Niedersachsen Hannover e.V. is a versatile sailing and windsurfing club on the northern shore of Lake Steinhude near Mardorf. The grounds offer sanitary facilities, a kitchen and clubroom, a rigging pier and jetty N24 with around 62 berths, an Optimist pier with slipway, a slip ramp, shore berths and a large car park, plus 40 overnight places for members. Key priorities are racing and youth work, including Sport Sailing Certificate training, holiday-pass courses and junior sailing, complemented by windsurfing and flotilla sailing. As a member of the German Sailing Federation and the Steinhude racing association, the club hosts autumn races for 420 and Seggerling classes and supports water rescue with the motorboat Co-Sinus.
History
Yacht-Club Niedersachsen Hannover e.V. is based on the northern shore of Lake Steinhude in Mardorf and sees itself as an ambitious sailing club focused on recreational sport, racing and youth development. Since 1993 the club has supported the Mistral and later Raceboard windsurfing classes on Lake Steinhude. In 2018 it hosted the German Open of the Seggerling class; in 2019 and 2020 it staged International German Championships for Raceboards. Also in 2018 the rescue boat Co-Sinus, a Buster Magnum, was newly acquired and has since been used for race support and water rescue within the Steinhude racing association. In June 2023 Lake Steinhude hosted the Raceboard world championship; in 2025 a Nord-Ost Raceboard Bundesliga qualifier took place at YCN. Current projects include building a summer kitchen and jetty work; in 2026 the club is a Finals venue and organises events such as the Late Summer Trophy and holiday-pass sailing.
