Yacht Club Gaienhofen e.V.

Yacht Club Gaienhofen e.V. is a sport-oriented sailing club on Lake Constance’s Untersee in Gaienhofen on the Mittlere Höri. The clubhouse sits right on the shore in Mühlenstraße and is the hub for racing, training and club life. Members use pontoon berths, dinghy storage and a varied programme including the Friendship Regatta, club championship, evening races and year-round sailing tuition for children and juniors. In the sailing season there are courses and race training; in winter, swimming sessions in the indoor pool; cruising and motorboating complete the offer. Since its founding in 1969 and the clubhouse move in 2005, close cooperation with the municipality has shaped club life.

History

Yacht-Club Gaienhofen e.V. was founded on 1 January 1969 and today has almost 200 members. The clubhouse is in Gaienhofen right on the shore of Lake Constance’s Untersee on the Mittlere Höri. On 31 October 2004 the lease of the previous club premises ended and the club was temporarily without rooms. At a hastily convened extraordinary general meeting it was decided to accept the municipality’s offer to rent and convert the former maceration building. In early 2005 member and architect Jürgen Rebitzke drew up the conversion plans. Under the construction lead of president Gertolf Unterrainer, walls were removed, sanitary facilities installed, tiling renewed, the ceiling panelled and an open staircase to the attic built; electrics, terrace and kitchen were renewed or added. On 8 April 2005 Yacht-Club Gaienhofen inaugurated the new clubhouse with a celebration. The municipality has provided the building since 2005 and supports the club in many matters. The sporting highlight is the annual International Friendship Regatta, linked with the municipal Mayor’s Cup and counting towards the Untersee Yardstick Cup. Club championship races, evening races, the Kangaroo Regatta series, cruising, motorboating and a sociable land programme round out club life.
