Yacht-Club Bad Wiessee e.V.
Yacht-Club Bad Wiessee e.V. is the third sailing club on Lake Tegernsee, situated on the western shore in Bad Wiessee with panoramic views of the Alps. On about 6,000 square metres of club grounds with roughly 200 metres of shoreline there are buoy and pier berths for yachts as well as shore storage for dinghies and catamarans, complemented by a crane and slipways. The clubhouse with the public restaurant La Vela forms the heart of club life; facilities also include an Optimist house, harbour area and a clubhouse webcam for weather observation. Juniors train regularly in Optimists, while adults and families take part in yardstick, class and Bavaria Cup regattas. Since its founding in 1971, tradition, youth development and sporting community on Lake Tegernsee have shaped the club's profile.
History
In 1971 Yacht-Club Bad Wiessee e.V. was founded around Anton Kathan with ten further sailors as the third sailing club on Lake Tegernsee. Two years later the clubhouse was built on municipal land in Bad Wiessee and the pier on property of H.R.H. Duke Max in Bavaria. On the western shore of Lake Tegernsee, one of the finest locations on the lake, the club has about 6,000 square metres of grounds with roughly 200 metres of waterfront and Alpine panoramic views. Yachts lie on buoys and at the harbour pier; dinghies and catamarans are stored ashore along the meadow. Infrastructure includes a crane and both a paved and a natural slipway. The public restaurant La Vela with sun terrace on the club grounds overlooks the lake and sailing activity. Over the decades the club has built a strong youth and regatta tradition: Optimist training, Finn, Topcat, Dragon and blu26 events and recurring Bavaria Cup regattas shape the sporting calendar. The blu26 Bavaria Cup was hosted for the 14th time in 2025 and attracts international guests. For more than 50 years Yacht-Club Bad Wiessee has combined sailing sport, club life and hospitality on Lake Tegernsee; milestones of the club's development are documented on the club website.
