Yachtclub Berlin-Grünau e.V.
Yachtclub Berlin-Grünau e.V. (YCBG) is a performance-oriented sailing club on the sheltered Müggelspree with direct access to Lake Müggelsee in Berlin. The club grounds on Müggelseedamm offer a clubhouse, terrace, halls and a crane; the club trains juniors in Optimist, ILCA and 420 and sails active racing classes such as Finn-Dinghy, OK-Jolle, Pirat, Flying Dutchman, H-Boot, Yngling and Star. Youth training, training camps and national as well as international regattas shape the programme, alongside cruising and club events. As an Olympically successful Berlin sailing club with its own regatta series (Frühjahrs-Cup, Berlin Cup, Stanjek Sailing Cup, Nebelpokal), YCBG is a fixture of sailing on Lake Müggelsee.
History
Yachtclub Berlin-Grünau e.V. (YCBG) presents itself as a success address of sailing on Lake Müggelsee and looks back on a long tradition of training young sailors. The club is regarded as Germany's most Olympically successful sailing club and combines its location on the sheltered Müggelspree with direct access to Berlin's largest lake. In 1993 the Aero Sail junior project started at the club with Jochen Schümann, North Sails and Daimler-Benz: from 600 screened sailors, 30 were selected and trained internationally on 40-footers and Mumm 36s, including in Miami and at Key West Race Week; the project ended in 1995. In later decades YCBG established its own regatta series with Frühjahrs-Cup, Berlin Cup, Stanjek Sailing Cup, Nebelpokal and club races and hosted major class championships, including the 2021 Yngling World Championship on Lake Müggelsee, IDM Star 2019, IDM OK 2022 and IDM H-Boot 2023. Members such as Kay-Uwe Lüdtke became Flying Dutchman world champions; Robert Stanjek is linked among other things to Ocean Race Europe successes. Today strong youth work in Optimist, ILCA and 420, training camps and active racing and cruising groups define club life.
