Yacht Club Bregenz
Yacht Club Bregenz (YCB) is a traditional sailing club on the Austrian shore of Lake Constance in Bregenz and ranks among Austria's leading sailing clubs. It runs its own marina with clubhouse, harbourmaster building, crane and slipway plus winter storage and parking, and opens the clubhouse restaurant to guests with lake views. The programme spans Optimist youth training, Olympic classes, club racing and cruising; Thursday evening sails, club and evening races and major events such as the 8mR World Cup shape the calendar. Since its founding in 1925 and the harbour site since 1953, YCB combines youth development, Olympic success and an active club community on Lake Constance.
History
On 18 April 1925, 24 boat owners founded the Bootsbesitzerclub Vorkloster at the Bilgeriebach, where the first clubhouse stood and the rowing club Wiking is based today. In 1929 the name became Boots-Club Vorkloster. In 1930 Albert Kaufmann, deputy mayor of Bregenz, took the lead. A 1933 fire destroyed the clubhouse and part of the fleet; Kaufmann still secured a rebuild that served into the 1960s. In 1947 the club adopted new statutes and the name Yacht Club Bregenz (YCB). Since 1953 it has been at today's harbour, built with city and federal support. For the 1925–2025 centenary a club book appeared; YCB hosts major events including the 2026 International 8 Metre Class World Cup and produced Olympic teams such as Bildstein/Hussl in the 49er (10th in Tokyo 2021) and the 470 team Bargehr/Mähr.
