Yacht Club Arbon
Yacht Club Arbon (YCA) is a competition-oriented sailing club on Lake Constance in Arbon and has existed since 1966. The club is a member of the Lake Constance Sailing Association and the Swiss Sailing Federation and covers sailing and racing. Facilities include a renovated clubhouse near the harbour, youth boats, motorboats and a winch for launching; juniors can rent boats and use dry storage at the New Castle Harbour in Arbon. Youth programmes target sailors aged 8 to 25 with courses and training in classes such as Optimist, 420, 29er and J/70; highlights include Mondscheinwoche and the Sheets & Knots regatta. Through the SailCom partnership, members can use the fleet without owning a boat, including a J/70 in front of the clubhouse in Arbon.
History
Yacht Club Arbon (YCA) has existed since 1966 and is among the competition-oriented sailing clubs of the regional association. It belongs to the Lake Constance Sailing Association and is a member of the Swiss Sailing Federation. From the outset the club has aimed to cover sailing and racing comprehensively and to introduce young people to the sport, promoting seamanship and racing talent equally. Junior work is a hallmark: young people aged 8 to 25 are coached by experienced trainers and later developed into racing sailors. The well-run juniors have already received several awards from the umbrella organisation and the Swiss Sailing Federation. Sporting highlights of club life are the traditional Mondscheinwoche and the Sheets & Knots regatta; among the members are multiple Swiss, European and world champions who fly the club colours on international inland and offshore waters. The clubhouse has been renovated and provides infrastructure for championships as well as space for social club life. Through partnership with the SailCom cooperative, YCA as a collective member offers its members access to the SailCom fleet on preferential terms ā including a J/70 in front of the clubhouse in Arbon. YCA Youth offers courses, boat hire and dry storage at the New Castle Harbour; since 2024 a J/70 youth group has also trained from Arbon harbour. The club continues to host events such as the Optimist Points Championship Lake Constance and will hold its 61st general meeting in 2026.
