Yachtclub Au
Yachtclub Au is a sailing club on Lake Zurich in Au ZH and describes itself as the Lake Zurich club with a distinctive watersports atmosphere. Founded in 1970 by 20 passionate sailors, the club now has more than 100 members and promotes sailing while preserving Lake Zurich as a recreational area. Facilities and activities include a clubhouse, dry storage at Au Haab, regattas such as the season opening and club championship, and open Monday sailing from Marina Rietliau. After youth work was revived in 2023, junior training is offered again; membership is possible with or without your own sailboat. Club trips, hikes and ties to Marina Wädenswil-Rietliau, including a webcam, further characterise club life.
History
Yachtclub Au was founded on 30 July 1970. As early as 1971 came racing, youth sailing and junior training on Optimists, plus a Swiss championship for O-Jollen. In 1975 the Wädenswil harbour cooperative was founded; Swiss championships followed in 1975 and again in 1978 (Lacustre and O-Jollen). In 1987 winter storage with a winter-storage committee was set up; in 1990 the clubhouse at Seeweg 64 opened. From 1993 to 2019 the Meersegler group exchanged offshore experience. 2003 brought a Swiss Yngling championship, 2005 the Wanderjungs and 2009 Monday sailing by the Mäntigmanne. Wine tastings began in 2010; from 2016 annual Swiss RC sailing championships followed. Junior training ended in 2018; the club celebrated 50 years in 2020 and revived youth work in 2023. Presidents included Hansruedi Pfenninger (1970–1980), Peter Graf (1980–1995), Hans-Jürg Grob (1995–2002), Paul Michel (2002–2013), Beat Föllmi (2013–2023) and Stephan Ghirlanda ad interim (2023–2024). The clubhouse gained a catering licence with alcohol permit in 1997; in 2023 Daniel Lehmann became clubhouse officer.
