History

Yachtclub Siegerland e.V. was founded in 1967 as AYCS on Lake Bigge. The founding members discovered good recreational opportunities at the reservoir, which had opened only two years earlier. With courage and determination, the “Siegerland” sailing club was successfully built up. The club’s fiftieth anniversary was celebrated in 2017. Families are already active on the water in the third generation. The jetty offers 28 berths, and a slipway shared with neighbouring clubs allows year-round launching. Participation in joint regattas and an annual harbour festival of the sailing clubs WSVB, ASC and YCS round off each sailing season. The club grounds at Talbrücke Sondern 1 in Olpe lie on the Bigge Reservoir, Westphalia’s largest reservoir at about 20 kilometres in length. The clubhouse shared with neighbouring clubs, with catering, terrace and sanitary facilities, remains the centre of club life to this day.
