Yachtclub Phoenixsee e.V.

History

On 1 April 2012 Yachtclub Phoenixsee began sailing operations on Lake Phoenixsee in Dortmund-Hörde. In time for the official lake opening, new club boats went into the water; in the first season around 70 active sailors of various ages were introduced to the club boats Laser Stratos Keel, Laser Vago as well as Optimist and Teeny. Since then flotilla cruises on the North Sea and Baltic Sea and on the IJsselmeer, regular training and an online boat-sharing system have been part of club life. In the first operating year the BMW Sailing Cup was a spectacular event; the first club regatta crowned active club life. For a long time the enclosure by the lake and a rented residential container served as a meeting point and temporary base until the end of 2021, when the move into the newly built water sports centre became possible. Since then a club room, boat hall and workshop, changing rooms, sanitary facilities including showers and a training room have been available. After restrictions during the coronavirus period the club again offers regatta training, free sailing, skipper training, flotilla cruises and club regattas. Members achieve successes at events such as Kieler Woche in the OK-Jolle class and take part in the Rheinwoche as well as the Dortmund city sailing championship on Lake Phoenixsee.
