Yachtclub Bitterfeld e.V.
Yachtclub Bitterfeld e.V. is an active sailing club on Lake Goitzsche in Saxony-Anhalt, founded on 6 June 2001 by watersports enthusiasts. On its fenced club grounds with a sailing house, slipway, land and water berths and indoor winter storage, the club offers sailing for beginners, families and racing sailors. Members can use club boats of the Laser Bahia and Ixylon types, along with modern club rooms with kitchen, toilets and showers. A strong youth section with Optimist training, regular Wednesday regattas and major events such as the 2022 International German Championships in the Ixylon and 505er classes shape club life. With around 105 members, the club is a regular organiser of competitions in the Central German region.
History
Yachtclub Bitterfeld e.V. was founded on 6 June 2001 by a small group of watersports enthusiasts to promote sailing and watersports on what was then the not yet opened Lake Goitzsche. The statutes were adopted at the founding general meeting on 6 June 2001 and were last amended on 13 April 2018. Since July 2008 the club has held a long-term lease on club grounds with berths and buildings near the blue Fluthelfer bench on Lake Goitzsche. Sanitary facilities and former office containers were acquired as training and classroom spaces. From the outset, promoting youth sailing was one of the club's most important tasks; children and young people now account for almost 15 to 20 percent of members. The club succeeded in attracting sponsors so that several club boats are available for youth work. Regatta sport is a particular strength: as early as 2008 the club brought the DSV German Championship in the Ixylon class to Lake Goitzsche. In 2021, on the club's 20th anniversary, the new sailing house with club and training rooms, changing rooms and training facilities was officially opened. In 2022 Yachtclub Bitterfeld hosted the International German Championships in the Ixylon and 505er classes with almost 180 athletes – the largest sailing event in Saxony-Anhalt in 30 years. The club regularly hosts the Central German Youth Championships, most recently in 2023 with over 70 children and young people in six youth boat classes from Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia. The MiDDle East Cup with classes such as Ixylon, H-Boot, 420er and Optimist is also a fixed part of the event calendar. At the 2023 general meeting a new board was elected with Raik Wollenbecker, Dr Klaus Duncker, Solveyg Horn and Steffen Heinritz; the club then had 105 members and continues as an active sports club with regattas and youth training.
