History
Yachtclub Wieck e.V. (YCW), based in Greifswald-Wieck, was founded around 1970 and celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2020. According to its statutes the club represents sailors and promotes leisure, cruising and racing as well as youth sailing, while also supporting nature and environmental protection as a non-profit association. The club burgee is blue and white with the Greifswald griffin and the abbreviation YCW. Together with Greifswalder Yachtclub (GYC) and Akademischer Seglerverein (ASV), YCW runs the Gemeinsame Jugendabteilung (GJA); the GJA boat hall is at the barrage on the south side of the Ryck on YCW grounds. In 2013 a dedicated crane was installed in front of the clubhouse on the south bank of the Ryck for slipping the yachts of the three Greifswald sailing clubs (commissioned 28 March 2013, manufacturer Vetter, capacity up to 10,000 kg, lifting height 8.8 m); it is available to members and guests for a fee and can also step and unstep masts. The club owns the youth keelboat LUVtikus, a Varianta 18 from HanseYachts in Greifswald, for training and racing by juniors, young adults and students. Traditionally YCW hosts the Blaues Band des Greifswalder Boddens (end-of-season late September, Greifswald to Thiessow) with results archives going back many years; members also join the weekly Greifswalder Mittwochsregatta (May to September) and regional events such as the GJA Boddenpokal. The club currently has about 95 members, including 18 children and juniors. The current statutes were adopted at the annual general meeting on 17 April 2015; the financial regulations date from the AGM of 30 May 2013. The club is registered at the Stralsund local court under number 4002 (LSB 011297, DSV MV044).
