Yacht-Club Tegel e.V.
Yacht-Club Tegel e.V. is a traditional, family-oriented sailing club on the southern shore of Lake Tegel in Berlin, founded in the mid-1930s with a focus on racing and cruising. The club grounds feature a jetty with water and electricity, a clubhouse with meeting, locker and kitchen rooms, and a workshop for minor repairs. Besides the home waters of Lake Tegel, Brandenburg's waterways, the Mecklenburg Lake District, the Baltic Sea and the Mediterranean are regular cruising destinations. Members without their own boat can use a Randmeer dinghy; children and juniors train among other classes in Optis together with neighbouring clubs SC Freia and SC Odin in the Segel-Gemeinschaft-Südufer. As one of Berlin's smaller sailing clubs, it thrives on cross-generational commitment and camaraderie among its members.
History
Yacht-Club Tegel was founded on 30 June 1930 and became a member of the German Sailing Federation. Comrade Erich Berner designed the club burgee; the first was sewn by the club women. Its origins lie in T.S. Triton at the Malche: Triton was a DSV member with around 40 members and had site and location problems. The club describes itself as a traditional, family-oriented sailing club focused on racing and cruising. Since January 2014 three clubs form the Segel-Gemeinschaft-Südufer Tegel (SGST) on Lake Tegel's southern shore; together they sail club regattas, celebrate festivals and carry out construction work. Youth work is organised within SGST, currently meeting at Segel-Club Odin. The Randmeer dinghy Rosi was extensively refurbished after being taken over by the southern-shore community and named in 2004; it serves as a training and racing boat. In recent years the reed belt at the waterworks was replanted jointly. Today the club sits on Lake Tegel's southern shore with jetty, clubhouse and workshop; members sail from Berlin waters to Brandenburg, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, the Baltic and the Mediterranean.
