Yachtclub Tivoli Luzern
Yachtclub Tivoli Luzern is a sailing and motorboat club on Lake Lucerne with a pier at Carl Spitteler Quai in Lucerne. The facility offers 56 berths, of which motorboat places are officially limited to 18; the focus is on sailing boats. Members and guests find racing, the club-internal Blue Ribbon competition, the Tivoli Cup as well as season opening and closing sails; the club also fields a team in the Swiss Sailing League Promotion League. Founded in 1966 with seven members and twelve berths, YTL combines tradition at the former Hotel Carlton Tivoli with an open club life for racing sailors, cruising sailors and motorboaters.
History
Yachtclub Tivoli Luzern was founded in 1966 by seven initiative founding members enthusiastic about sailing. It began with a pier for twelve boats. In the era of the Grand Hotel Carlton Tivoli, the club enjoyed a stylish, professionally run boat house with restaurant. When the hotel was sold, the dilapidated boat house was demolished. Independent operation apart from the hotel long seemed impossible. The catering company Remimag AG later planned a new lakeside restaurant; building approval was delayed by pending objections. The planned new building is eventually to include club premises for YTL and upgrade club life. In the meantime the club makes do at the pier and enlivens it with well-attended events such as pier cleaning day, season opening, Tivoli Cup, season closing and the Blue Ribbon. Today the pier offers 56 berths; the focus is on sailing boats, with motorboat places officially limited to 18. YTL recognises the ethics statute of Swiss sport and welcomes ambitious racing sailors, wakefoilers, cruising sailors and motorboaters.
