History
The club history states that in January 1977 a group of watersports enthusiasts on Flensburg Fjord came together to found Marina Wassersleben and create a modern sports boat harbour. Finding a permanent location proved difficult because the city planned industrial and ferry-oriented use of the inner harbour, and a watersports club did not initially fit that concept. After around three years of negotiations, the group was able to lease seasonal berths in the free harbour from spring 1980; shortly afterwards, a temporary water-area usage contract followed, floating pontoons were installed, and the harbour was introduced to the public with a large opening celebration. In the years that followed, members invested heavily, removed old buildings, installed sanitary containers, built permanent access to the piers, and turned the former industrial area into a recreational harbour zone. In 1996, a city council decision granted WSF the right to remain at its current site for at least 25 years, and later land swaps and long-term leases added further areas, including adjacent coal-storage land for winter storage.
