Wassersportgemeinschaft Altmühl-Brombachsee e.V.
Wassersportgemeinschaft Altmühl-Brombachsee e.V. is a family-friendly sailing club located at Lake Großer Brombachsee in the Franconian Lake District in Bavaria. The club operates its own clubhouse directly at the sailing harbor in Pleinfeld-Ramsberg, complemented by a boat hall, workshop, crane facilities and short access to both water and land berths. Club life includes shared sailing, volunteer work services, social events and regular regatta activity such as the MONAS ranking regatta held at the venue. In addition to experienced sailors, the club also addresses beginners and families through access to club boats, peer exchange and cooperation with Segelschule Fürst. The WAB was founded on 06 March 1976, the modern clubhouse was inaugurated in 1999, and the club celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2026.
History
Wassersportgemeinschaft Altmühl-Brombachsee e.V. was founded on 06 March 1976, even before the official handover of the Franconian Lake District, with the goal of promoting water sports in Franconia. The club established itself at Lake Großer Brombachsee in Pleinfeld-Ramsberg and built long-term infrastructure including club and privately owned sailboats as well as a club-owned motorboat for training support. In 1999, the modern clubhouse at the sailing harbor was inaugurated and has since become the central meeting point for members and guests. Over the following years, the clubhouse, boat hall and workshop were continuously maintained and modernized, including renovations of the main hall, youth room, entrance area and staircase as well as kitchen upgrades. Recurring events such as summer festivals, Christmas celebrations, general meetings and work service days shape the club year and are supported by strong volunteer participation. In sporting terms, WAB has long been active as organizer of the MONAS ranking regatta at Brombachsee; in 2024 the event took place there for the 25th time. In 2026, the club marks its 50th anniversary and looks back on five decades of club life, community and commitment.
