Wassersportclub Wäschbruck Radolfzell e. V.

Wassersportclub Wäschbruck Radolfzell e.V. is an established sailing and watersports club on Lake Constance, with facilities at the harbor and at the Herzen club grounds in Radolfzell. The club operates its own marina with 165 berths, a harbor master office, a mast crane, sanitary facilities and a clubhouse, providing extensive infrastructure for members and visiting crews. Its program is shaped by youth development, regular training sessions, regattas such as the Wäschtwind Cup, and an active calendar of club events. Emerging from an interest group in the 1970s, the club was officially founded in 1978, opened its harbor in 1989, and has since continued to expand its facilities with milestones including the harbor building upgrade in 2012 and the clubhouse extension in 2019.

History

In the early 1970s, legal developments in Baden-Württemberg indicated tighter limits on the number of boats and berths on Lake Constance. In response, an “Interessengemeinschaft Bojenfeld” was formed in Radolfzell to preserve local berths along the shoreline. From this group, Wassersportclub Wäschbruck Radolfzell e.V. was founded in December 1978, quickly gaining influence with authorities through founder Dieter Busse and persistent negotiations. After more than ten years, the berth issue was resolved positively, and in summer 1989 the club put the Wäschbruck harbor into operation. In the following years, the club grew steadily and reached another milestone in 2012 by converting the former harbor master hut into a larger harbor building with office, terrace, lounge and modern sanitary facilities. Around the same period, a clubhouse was built at the Herzen grounds and later expanded with a functional extension in 2019. According to the club’s own account, WWRa had over 1000 members in 2025 and, thanks to its infrastructure and strong volunteer commitment, is able to host larger sporting events and championships.
